The Person Behind the Pen

A Lifelong Love for Writing

My path to becoming an author is not the most traditional. I don’t have a literary degree from a prestigious university, nor do I work in an industry that naturally lends itself to writing. I did, however, fall in love with storytelling at a young age—weaving bedtime tales for my little sister, filling journals with poetry, and crafting short works of fiction to share with family and friends.

That love of writing followed me into adulthood, and nearly two years ago, after rereading one of my favorite fantasy novels, I thought to myself, I could do this.

The next day, I outlined my first book, and I haven’t stopped writing since.

About The Author

Hi there, I’m Kristen.

I was raised in southern Florida and went to college in Maryland, where I studied Oceanography at the United States Naval Academy. After graduating, I served seven years on active duty as a Human Resources Officer before transitioning out of the military to start a family and pursue a new career path. Since then, I’ve earned my master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from Northwestern University and now work as an events manager for a major financial institution.

I know what you’re thinking: "Wow! She’s all over the place." You’re not wrong. I’ve always had a wide range of interests, but through every season of life, writing has remained one of my deepest passions.

While romantic fantasy is my favorite genre to read and write, I'm very interested in dystopian and post-apocalyptic fiction. When I’m not writing, you can usually find me redecorating my home, spending time outside, or passionately defending the Oxford comma.

I currently live in Virginia with my husband, our two children, and our two cats, Milo and Ravioli.
